King Harold Academy
Getting to and from King Harold Academy
These routes and maps are suggestions of how you could stop taking the car and swap to cycling, walking, or scooting to school. They don’t show every possible route and you could have fun finding a way that works for you. If you know a safe way that gets you there even quicker, that’s great! Take that route instead.
Broomstick Hall Road
Heavy traffic zone
The highlighted heavy traffic zone on the map shows the area that will have the heaviest traffic at school time. By using alternate routes and a mix of walking and cycling, you can avoid sitting in traffic and being late for school.
King Harold Academy is found centrally in Waltham Abbey, just off one of the main roads through the town. There are pavements on both sides of all the surrounding roads, along with a few crossing islands. A number of footpaths provide short cuts through the estates.
About a mile from the school is River Lee Country Park, which is full of cycle tracks. These include National Cycle Network route 1, coming up from the Docklands area.
King Harold Academy is fortunate to have many bus services, either right on its doorstep or a very short walk away. Some buses go to Epping and others towards Loughton. The 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard allows free travel on Transport for London buses, and the 16+ Zip Oyster photocard permits you 50% off if you live outside London, and free if you live inside. Both are available to those who live both inside and outside London. There is a small admin fee when applying.
