Getting to and from Thurstable School
These routes and maps are suggestions of how you could stop taking the car and swap to cycling, walking, or scooting to school. They don’t show every possible route and you could have fun finding a way that works for you. If you know a safe way that gets you there even quicker, that’s great! Take that route instead.
Heavy traffic zone
The highlighted heavy traffic zone on the map shows the area that will have the heaviest traffic at school time. By using alternate routes and a mix of walking and cycling, you can avoid sitting in traffic and being late for school.
The main entrance to Thurstable School is on Maypole Road. There’s an alternative pedestrian entrance on the much quieter Spinneyfields cul-de-sac. Not only is there a lot less traffic and fewer busy roads to cross, it’s also on the side of the school nearest to the majority of Tiptree. This means most of the town have an easy and more direct walking route into school. Throughout Tiptree there is a great network of footpaths. The front entrance of the school also has its own zebra crossing to support safe walking access.
National Cycle Network route 1 goes through the middle of Tiptree, not far from the school. Thurstable School has fully covered and secure bike storage.
Tiptree is a crossroads for multiple bus services, between Kelvedon, Colchester, Maldon and Tolleshunt D’Arcy. Those services are about 300 metres from the school in the town centre. Services to Colchester go past the front of the school.
