A map showing cycle and walking routes to and from Roding Valley High School

Getting to and from Roding Valley High School

These routes and maps are suggestions of how you could stop taking the car and swap to cycling, walking, or scooting to school. They don’t show every possible route and you could have fun finding a way that works for you. If you know a safe way that gets you there even quicker, that’s great! Take that route instead.

Address

Roding Valley High School

Alderton Hill

Loughton

Essex

Heavy traffic zone

The highlighted heavy traffic zone on the map shows the area that will have the heaviest traffic at school time. By using alternate routes and a mix of walking and cycling, you can avoid sitting in traffic and being late for school.

Walking routes

Roding Valley is well situated for walking to school, with pavements, guard rails, crossing islands and zebra crossings all on the nearby roads. There’s a zebra crossing directly outside the front entrance of the school, on Alderton Hill, and a side entrance on the much quieter Brook Road.

Bus routes

As the school is very close to the High Street and the Loughton Underground Station, it has plenty of nearby bus services, both towards London and towards Epping. Children aged 11 to 15 years and 16 to 17 years can get free or discounted travel on Transport for London buses. The 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard and the 16+ Zip Oyster photocard are available to those who live both inside and outside London.

Train routes

Loughton Underground Station is about 300 metres from the front door of the school. This is on the Central Line, between Stratford and Epping. The services are incredibly frequent and, as the school’s not in central London, you’re more likely to get a seat.

Similar to the buses, children aged 11 to 15 years and 16 to 17 years can get free or discounted travel on Transport for London buses. The 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard and the 16+ Zip Oyster photocard are available to those who live both inside and outside London.
