Ongar Academy, The
Getting to and from The Ongar Academy
These routes and maps are suggestions of how you could stop taking the car and swap to cycling, walking, or scooting to school. They don’t show every possible route and you could have fun finding a way that works for you. If you know a safe way that gets you there even quicker, that’s great! Take that route instead.
Heavy traffic zone
The highlighted heavy traffic zone on the map shows the area that will have the heaviest traffic at school time. By using alternate routes and a mix of walking and cycling, you can avoid sitting in traffic and being late for school.
Chipping Ongar is a very small town so the school is walkable from anywhere. There are pavements throughout the town and a zebra crossing on Fyfield Road almost outside the school entrance. The main roundabout in the middle of town has a zebra crossing to help pedestrians cross Epping Road..
Chipping Ongar has a main road running through it, so probably the quickest way to get from one side of town to the other is by bike. Fyfield Road, where the school is located, is straight, with good sight lines for safety. There is a zebra crossing which benefit cyclists just as much as walkers.
Chipping Ongar has buses going towards Chelmsford, Brentwood and Epping. The service going to Chelmsford, via Fyfield, Willingale and Roxwell, goes right past the school entrance.
