Castle View School

A map showing cycle and walking routes to and from Castle View School

Getting to and from Castle View School

These routes and maps are suggestions of how you could stop taking the car and swap to cycling, walking, or scooting to school. They don’t show every possible route and you could have fun finding a way that works for you. If you know a safe way that gets you there even quicker, that’s great! Take that route instead.

Heavy traffic zone

The highlighted heavy traffic zone on the map shows the area that will have the heaviest traffic at school time. By using alternate routes and a mix of walking and cycling, you can avoid sitting in traffic and being late for school.

Walking routes

Castle View School is in the heart of Canvey Island and is very well served for walking. There’s a zebra crossing directly outside the front of the school, crossing a one-way road, and a number of other zebra crossings around the whole one-way system. Slightly further afield there are plenty of footpaths and lengthy off-road footpaths around the nearby lake, linking to other parts of the island. The pavement outside the school is very wide and the front of the schools has a number of entrance points for pedestrians.

Cycling routes

The one-way system for accessing the school makes cycling safer. The zebra crossings are also very helpful. For students coming from the eastern end of the island there’s an off-road cycle path which takes in pretty much the whole south coast, which you can come off only a few hundred metres from the school.

Just across the estuary is Hadleigh Park, which was the site for the 2012 Olympic mountain bike events. This provides the perfect opportunity for practising your cycling skills.

Bus routes

The main bus routes taking people around Canvey, as well as on and off the island, pass either right past the school or extremely close to it. There’s a stop with shelter and seating directly outside the front door.
