FAQs: everything you need to know about the 60 Day Challenge

What is the Stop.Swap.GO! 60 Day Challenge?

We are challenging people across Essex to swap to more active forms of travel for 60 days. From 1 August 2020 through to 31 March 2021, eligible Essex residents will be able to take on the challenge and win prizes just by walking and cycling more. Sounds great, right?

Who is the challenge for?

Anybody aged 13 years and older! It’s never been easier to walk or cycle in Essex and we want everyone to experience the benefits of travelling by bike or foot. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, switching up your school or college run, or just finding your feet, you can Stop.Swap.GO! and be in with a chance to win.

How do I take part?

From 1 August 2020, you’ll be able sign up to the challenge and download our app. You’ll then have 60 days to log as many daily cycling and walking trips as you can for the chance to win fantastic prizes. Hint: the more you walk and cycle, the more chances you’ll have to win!

Plus, from 23 November 2020 the challenge is open to those aged 13 and over, you can sign your children up, too. That’s extra chances for your family to win in our prize draws, extra opportunities for quality time and even extra cash in your pocket if your teens win our voucher prizes to treat themselves with!

Logging a trip is really easy using the app. Every day a new trip task will appear for you. Click on it and upload a photo, video or a note to tell us about your daily trip. Once it’s uploaded, your daily trip will be logged and you’ll get one entry into the prize draw for that week.

And don’t worry – you don’t have to post selfies if you don’t want to. Pictures of your environment, simple text notes – or even screenshots of your fitness tracker showing your activity for the day – all count. You can be as creative as you like! (as long as you don’t post anything inappropriate, of course).

Stay safe while you #StopSwapGO!

We want you and your family to stay safe and get the most out of your travels when logging your journeys on our 60 Day Challenge app.

Whether you’re walking to school or college, or cycling to the shops, we encourage you to:

  • Avoid taking photos or videos while actively on the move. Keep your phone in your pocket – and your eyes and ears on the road!

  • Find a safe spot to take a quick picture, video or note for your Daily Trip Diary – or wait until you’re safely at your destination.

  • Stay visible. Avoid wearing dark colours, wear high vis clothing or accessories and stick to cycle paths and pedestrian crossings where possible.

You can find more general safety information for all road users on the Safer Essex Roads Partnership website.

How far do I have to walk or cycle each day?

Walk or cycle as far as you like - every trip counts. Whether you’re walking to work, or just nipping to the shops, be sure to log your trip and you’ll be in with a chance to win. We encourage you to aim for a minimum of 10 minutes active travel for each trip.

I already do some walking or cycling. Can I join in and win prizes too?

Of course you can! We want as many people as possible to switch car-use for active travel.

Can I invite my friends and family to join the challenge too?

Yes! The more the merrier. Share this page with your family and friends and they can register for the challenge using the sign-up form, too. There are lots of people taking our challenge together and it’s a great way to spur each other on towards your goals and spend some quality time together.

As long as they’re Essex residents and aged 13 or over, they’re eligible to join in the fun and have a go at winning some of our prizes.

What do I need to join the challenge?

All you need is a smartphone to download the app.

How do I download the app?

Sign up to the 60 Day Challenge and the link to register and download the challenge app will appear. We’ll also send you an email with the link in it too, just in case. Your 60 Day Challenge will begin as soon as you register on the app.

How do the prize draws work – and what can I win?

Over the course of our 60 Day Challenge we’ll be giving away prizes weekly and bi-monthly (every two months).

There are three main ways to win:

1. Weekly prize raffles

For every trip you log in the Indeemo app each week, you’ll gain an entry into our weekly prize raffle to win £50.00 e-gift cards. You get to choose between e-gift cards for Love2Shop or Amazon.

Plus! Should you reach the lofty heights of 60 logged trips during your 60 Day Challenge, you’ll qualify for entry into our Golden Ticket raffle, – keep reading for more details.

Winners will be picked at random each week and notified via Indeemo.

2. Weekly bonus challenges

An extra chance to win a prize by going the extra mile!

Each week you’ll see a ”Weekly bonus challenge” task in Indeemo. Complete it and you’ll be entered into our bonus challenge to win a £25.00 Love2Shop or Amazon e-gift card (winner’s choice).

There’ll be a different bonus challenge every week. It could be something simple, like uploading a selfie at your favourite Essex beauty spot, or silly, like pimping your bike or walking gear. Either way it’s sure to be fun and a great way to win more prizes.

Team Stop.Swap.GO! will review all entries each week and choose a lucky winner to be notified via Indeemo.

3. Golden Ticket raffle (bi-monthly)

A chance at a whopping prize for the most active of challengers!!

We’ll be holding bi-monthly Golden Ticket raffles where one lucky winner will scoop £1,000 to spend on a bike plus cycling and walking accessories of their choice!

Stop.Swap.WOW!

To get your hands on a golden ticket entry, complete 60 daily trip diaries using the Indeemo app and you’ll automatically be entered into your nearest Golden Ticket raffle draw.

The lucky winner will be picked at random and notified via Indeemo.

Why are you using Indeemo? Can you tell me more about it?

We have chosen to partner with the Indeemo app to launch our 60 Day Challenge. This is because we have found that the Indeemo app is easy to use, secure, and best serves the purposes of our 60 Day Challenge.

Indeemo is usually used to run mobile ethnography research projects but we’re using it in a slightly different way for our 60 Day Challenge: as a trip diary so you can log and share your walking and cycling stories with us.

If you need any help using Indeemo, please contact our mailbox at stop.swap.go@essex.gov.uk and we will happily assist you. Thank you.

Why is bus travel not included in the 60 Day Challenge?

The challenge focusses on walking and cycling to begin with, as bus travel has restrictions on capacity due to social distancing. Good news though, there is a bus-focused initiative coming in the future as part of Stop.Swap.GO!

Why do you need my email and address when I sign up to the 60 Day Challenge?

We need your email address so that we can contact you if you win a prize as part of the 60 Day Challenge. We need your address so that we know you live in Essex and so we can send you any prizes.

By providing your contact details, you’re telling us you’re keen to hear more about Stop.Swap.GO! and that you’re happy for us to contact you by email and in app notifications. Welcome to the community!

What will you do with the photos, videos and notes I upload to the app during the challenge?

Any content you upload to the 60 Day Challenge app will be kept securely, remain private (unless we have been granted permission to share it as part of Stop.Swap.GO! marketing and communications), and be removed from the challenge app database shortly after the challenge ends (April 2021).

We may wish to share your photos, videos and notes with the Stop.Swap.GO! community on social media, our website and our newsletters. You will be asked if you consent to us doing this when you sign-up to the challenge using the form on the 60 Day Challenge page.

If you don’t want us to share your photos, videos and notes, you can opt out when you sign up to the challenge (just tick the box for “No, please do not share my content”), or at any point during your 60 Day Challenge, opt out of sharing your content by emailing stop.swap.go@essex.gov.uk. You can also request to be removed from the challenge and have any of your content removed from the app database at any time by emailing stop.swap.go@essex.gov.uk.

Any content you upload to the app is fully protected by EU GDPR and we are committed to fully complying with this legislation. You can read further information regarding your rights and our privacy policy.
